Why and how to bring much-needed backbends into your life.
Backbends – you either love them or hate them. Flexible people love them, but need more core. Stiff people usually hate them, but could really use them. Contrary to what we might think, back-bending can be quite therapeutic. We spend most of our day sitting, standing, CLIMBING or even sleeping in a posterior curve in our spine (rounding the back). Understanding what we are doing in back bends helps to reverse this process as we learn how to work the back “bend”. What we want is to create space and flexibility within the vertebrae and muscles to allow the discs to shift back towards neutral.
In this 2.5 hour workshop, we will focus on deepening your flexibility and opening the space behind your heart – how to shift the ‘bend’ from lower spine to Upper and Thoracic Spine, relieving the compression and pressure on your Lumbar spine. We will look at how different body types approach backbends differently, why we backbend and how to do this safely, confidently and with control. All levels welcome!
