BELAYING

REQUIRED TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION FOR ROPE CLIMBING

LEARN THE ROPES

Belaying is the process of managing a climbing rope to protect your climbing partner in the event of a fall and to lower them back to the ground after they complete their climb. Our one-hour belay lesson will teach you the essential climbing and rope work skills which will empower you and your climbing partner to tackle our 50-foot tall climbing walls.

Belay lessons often fill up, so reserving a spot prior to your first visit is recommended. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your lesson time!

Note: Participants must be 14 years or older to take the belay lesson.

    BELAY CERTIFICATION

Climbers will need a partner who has passed our Top Rope Belay test in order to climb on our tall rope climbing walls.

If you know how to tie a figure-8 follow-through knot and are familiar with the P.L.U.S. method of belaying, you don’t need to take our belay lesson, just ask our staff to administer the belay test. If you’re not familiar with this type of belaying or need a refresher, sign up for one of our belay classes.

A Top Rope Belay Test can be requested at the front desk any time during normal business hours and usually takes less than 5 minutes. Reservations are not required.

Note: Participants must be 14 years or older to take the Top Rope Belay Test.

Lead climbing requires an additional Lead Climbing Test.
