Each expert is strategically scheduled to maximize their contribution to the program(s) they serve and are developed to fully express their potential. Guided by the Mesa Rim Coaching Philosophy, each coach and setter strives to help climbers Trust The Process.
MEET OUR COACHES + SETTERS
Matt DeStefano
Competitive Head Coach
Matt DeStefano is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and the Head Coach of the Mesa Rim Climbing Academy’s Competitive Team. He has extensive experience working with athletes competing at the National-level, World Cup-level, and Olympic-level. When he’s not shaping the minds of tomorrow’s climbing athletes, he’s probably out shaping his own mind through intense physical activity.
Calum McShane
Recreational Head Coach
Calum McShane is our Recreational Head Coach. Cal has extensive experience working with chlidren in multiple capacities and has spent the last three years supporting and shaping the recreational programs offerred at the Mesa Rim Climbing Academy. Along with continuing to grow Camp Mesa Rim, Cal supports his team of coaches and his Rec Team athletes on a daily basis. When he is not coaching, you can find Cal roller skating, playing board games, and traveling the globe finding new adventures.
Chris Ruggiero
Adult Programs Supervisor
Chris Ruggiero is our Adult Programs Supervisor. Chris has worked with Mesa Rim for seven years and has honed his expertise as an instructor, coach and most recently, a routesetter. They have a passion for teaching and learning from their students, and their mentorship has been key to the continued growth and success of our Adult Programs. Along with their years of coaching experience and passion for climbing, Chris is a CWA-certified Lead Instructor and endeavors to bring the Adult Programs Department to new heights.
Enrico Baistrocchi
Coach + Setter
Enrico is a former IFSC World Cup competitor and Italian National Team athlete with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science. Since retiring from the competitive stage, Enrico has gone on to become an IFSC ceritified routesetter who has chiefed a number of National, Divisional, and Regional USA Climbing events. When he is not working with athletes, he loves spending time with his family, drinking coffee and working on his vespas.
