Every climber is on a unique journey to reach their own individual goals. Mesa Rim’s recreational and competitive youth programs are designed to help climbers of all levels reach new heights by building the best foundation possible in a fun, supportive environment.

RECREATIONAL CLIMBING TEAMS

Alpine Team
ALPINE TEAM
RECREATIONAL CLIMBING TEAM

The Alpine Team is a monthly commitment for youth climbers that have been through our Adventure Series and would like to take their climbing to the next level.  

In this program climbers will work with coaches on the following:

  • Safety
  • Climbing Gym Etiquette
  • Being a good teammate and member of our community.
  • Endurance

1:6 Coaching Ratio.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 7-16 years of old
  • Must pass belay test prior to admittance to the program
  • Admission by team try-outs or completion of Adventure Series

PRICE: $190.00 per month (harness and shoe rental included)

SESSIONS:

  • Wednesdays: 4:00pm – 6:00pm
  • Thursdays: 2:00pm – 4:00pm
  • Fridays: 4:00pm – 6:00pm
Ascent Team
ASCENT team
RECREATIONAL CLIMBING TEAM

The Ascent Team is a monthly commitment for beginner to intermediate youth climbers.  

In this program, climbers will work with coaches to grow their skills in the following ways:

  • Technique
  • Climbing Etiquette
  • Fitness
  • Endurance
  • Climbing Skills and Passion

1:6 Coaching Ratio.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 7-18 years of old
  • Admission by team try out or coaches recommendation.

PRICE: $225.00 per month (harness and shoe rental included)

SESSIONS:

  • Tuesdays & Thursdays: 4:00pm – 6:00pm

Peak Team
PEAK TEAM
RECREATIONAL CLIMBING TEAM

The Peak Team is a monthly commitment for beginner climbers that are teenagers!

In this program climbers will work with coaches on the following:

  • Safety
  • Climbing Gym Etiquette
  • Being a good teammate and member of our community.
  • Endurance

1:6 Coaching Ratio.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 13 to 18 years old
  • Admission by team try-outs or approval from the Head Coach 
  • Must pass belay test prior to admittance to the program.

PRICE: $190 per month (harness and shoe rental included)

SESSIONS:

  • Fridays: 4:00pm – 6:oopm
Vertical Youth Team
APEX TEAM
RECREATIONAL CLIMBING TEAM

The Apex Team is a monthly commitment for youth climbers that have an interest in learning how to train for climbing both physically and mentally. Climbers will learn how to lead in this program, goal setting to track progress, injury prevention, and nutrition and. During this program in this program climbers will work with coaches on the following:

  • Safety
  • Climbing Gym Etiquette
  • Being a good teammate and member of our community
  • Endurance

1:6 Coaching Ratio

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 13-18 years of old
  • Must pass belay test prior to admittance to the program.
  • Admission from the Head Coach

PRICE: $275.00 per month 

SESSIONS:

  • Tuesday – Friday: 4:00pm – 7:00pm

COMPETITIVE CLIMBING TEAMS

Vertical Youth Team
Mini Summit Youth team
COMPETITIVE CLIMBING TEAM

The Mini Summit Youth Team is a 3-month commitment for youth climbers who are eager to train for climbing and are interested in competitions. In this program, climbers will have personalized training and will compete in local competitions.

Minimum duration on this team is 2 months before moving up to the Summit Youth Team.

1:6 Coaching Ratio.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 7-18 years of old
  • Admission by team try-outs or approval from the Head Coach
  • Participation at Qualifying Events
  • If an athlete qualifies for Regional Championships it is strongly encouraged to participate.
  • Athletes who qualify for major competitions may not have any personal travel 1 week prior to the event to ensure they are prepared through practice attendance.

PRICE: $300/month (Team Membership fee does not include additional seasonal fees or equipment)

SESSIONS:

  • Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays: 4:00pm – 6:00pm
Summit Team
SUMMIT YOUTH team
COMPETITIVE CLIMBING TEAM

The Summit Team is a 6 month commitment for youth climbers who are eager to train for climbing and want to take competitions to a new level.  This program offers personalized training that will help climbers achieve their competition and climbing goals.

1:8 Coaching Ratio.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 7 to 18 years old
  • Admission by team try-outs or approval from the Head Coach
  • Athletes in youth categories C/D/B will be required to compete and train in all three disciplines, bouldering, sport/top rope, and speed. In this program, youth A and JR athletes will have the opportunity to specialize in disciplines with coach’s permission and guidance.
  • Participation at Qualifying Events and Championship Events is mandatory in all disciplines.
  • There will be travel for competitions and training camps throughout the year. Athletes will be required to travel for competitions and are encouraged to attend training camps twice per year.
  • Athletes who qualify for major competitions may not have any personal travel 2 weeks prior to the event  to ensure they are prepared through practice attendance.

PRICE: $350 per month (Team Membership fee does not include additional seasonal fees or equipment)

SESSIONS:

  • Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays: 4:00pm – 7:oopm
Pinnacle Team
SUMMIT PLUS YOUTH TEAM
 COMPETITIVE CLIMBING TEAM

The Summit Plus is a 10 month commitment for youth athletes that includes:

  • Individualized training and goal setting
  • Competition video analysis for all major events
  • Stress management and resilience coaching
  • Cross training
  • Injury prevention

1:8 Coaching Ratio.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 7 to 18 years old
  • Admission by team try-outs or approval from the Head Coach – All athletes who compete at Nationals will be admitted into the program
  • Athletes in youth categories C/D/B will be required to compete and train in all three disciplines, bouldering, sport/top rope, and speed. In this program, youth A and JR athletes will have the opportunity to specialize in disciplines with coach’s permission and guidance.
  • Participation at Qualifying Events and Championship Events is mandatory in all disciplines.

Our coaches and are hired based on their expertise, drive to learn, and ability to work effectively with others towards a common goal. Each coach is strategically scheduled to maximize their contribution to the program(s) they serve and are developed to fully express their potential.   • Jackie is a USAC Level 2 Coach, as well as CPR, First Aid, and SafeSport Certified. She has been coaching for 15 years and specializes in movement and mental toughness training for athletes. She loves the process of building trust with climbers and unlocking mental blocks in order to achieve their best potential.

Head Competitive Team Coach

  • Jon is CPR, First Aid, and SafeSport certified, is a Level 2 USAC Coach, has been climbing for 12 years, and has been a professional route setter for 8 years. Jon has trained with students of all ages and emphasizes movement and strength training for climbing. He loves teaching and sharing his passion for climbing with the community as well as helping climbers train for their indoor and outdoor goals.

Recreational Head Coach

  • Jules is an aspirant SPI guide, as well as CPR, First Aid, and SafeSport certified. His approach to coaching centers around honoring emotions, working with fear, and weaving play into every climb. His goal is to help climbers tap into their unique magic, embracing challenges with curiosity and courage while forging a deep connection with both the rock and personal growth. What Jules loves most about coaching is witnessing his students step into their power, build resilience, and find their place in the climbing community.
Kimberly Allcock

Kimberly Allcock

Yoga + Fitness Supervisor

  • Kim is Yoga Alliance certified and holds her Certified Personal Trainer certificate with NASM. She is also trained in sports nutrition, is CPR and SafeSport certified, and is currently studying corrective exercises. As a coach, she helps athletes with strength, power, fitness, and injury prevention. Her skill lies in creating resistance training programs and teaching antagonistic, mobility and coordination exercises to support young athletes on the wall.

L2 - Climbing Coach

  • Kat is SafeSport certified and began climbing when she was in college. It is her all time favorite form of exercise, both physically and mentally. Her background in customer service combined with her love of working with kids brought her to the Mesa Rim coaching department, which she says is basically her dream job. She loves sharing her knowledge, helping new and experienced climbers reach their goals, and encouraging everyone to be their best, both on and off the wall.

L1 - Climbing Coach + Instructor

  • Derek is certified as an AMGA Single Pitch Instructor as well as a Wilderness First Responder and is responsible for over 250 first ascents worldwide. He has been climbing for over 15 years and has over 8 years of guiding and instruction experience. He is highly skilled in areas such as traditional climbing, rope systems, and expedition logistics. Derek believes that climbing is the ultimate vehicle for exploring our inner selves and the world around us and he encourages his students to use climbing as a way to overcome personal challenges.

  • John is SafeSport certified and began climbing outdoors in 1986. He has been climbing both indoors and outdoors ever since. He loves sharing his passion for the sport with others through coaching. His coaching style can be described as cheerleading and lots of positive feedback. He takes great joy in seeing his students do well and feels that his coaching dream is fulfilled when a student becomes better than him.
